Dr. Phillips responds to Science article
Georgetown Professor Emerita and CDSP affiliate Dr. Deborah Phillips responded to a recent article in Science about the “Unsettled science on longer-run effects of early childhood.” The response, "Unsettled but Actionable," co-signed by lab director Dr. Anna Johnson and 11 of their colleagues, explains why the science of early education is much more ready for action than the article suggests. Dr. Steimle accepted as National Poverty Fellow
Congrats to recent CDSP alumna Dr. Sam Steimle, who was accepted as a 2024-2026 National Poverty Fellow through the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Institute for Research on Poverty, in residence at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE).

Op Ed Published!
In October 2023, Tulsa SEED study PI Dr. Anna Johnson published an op ed in the Tulsa World about what Oklahoma standardized 3rd grade tests can tell us – and what they can’t. Her key takeaway is that Oklahoma’s standardized test program does not fully capture what children know and can do, and the skills it misses are highly consequential for future learning. SREE 2023
Doug Hummel-Price, a member of the Tulsa SEED Research Team, presented new findings at the nation's leading education evaluation research conference – the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE). His findings link public pre-k participation in Tulsa to increased school attendance and reduced chronic absenteeism post-COVID. This is BIG NEWS in a post-COVID world in which public schools are struggling with historic low and unstable attendance!

Congratulations to Professor Ryan for winning another competitive grant! This award from the W.T. Anne Partika Receives Head Start Dissertation Grant
A huge congratulations to CDSP’s doctoral candidate Anne Partika for receiving the Early Care & Education Research Scholars: Head Start Dissertation Grant from the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is one of only six recipients to receive this funding! October 2022.
